Raw Materials Identification Site
This is a simple test to identify a certain product
what you will need is
- Bowl of water
- Soldering Iron or hot rod
- Lighter
- Small sample of material to test
TEST INFORMATION
* Denotes - Float / Sink Test in water
- Make sure no bubbles are left on sample
- Foamed plastics will float and some filled Polyolefins will sink
- Materials having a density greater than 1.0 g/cc will sink
** Denotes - Burn Test / Odour Test
- Work in a well ventilated area away from flammable surfaces and fluids.
- Wear safety glasses and use tongs or pliers to hold sample into flame.
- Never inhale vapours of burning plastic.
- Observ burning behaviour, check odour after plastic has extinguished and
is no longer fuming, by waving vapours towards you.
- Burning behaviour may be modified by the presence of flame retardants or
fillers in some plastics.
